Standing On Our Own Two Feet

Photographer and Editor: Virginia Allyn

Vocalist: Aaron Cooke

"Standing On Our Own Two Feet" tells a story of the place and the community of  Far Rockaway, Queens, New York in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

We meet a mail carrier, a resident of public housing, a librarian and others who share their experiences.   Jose looks at the devastation about him and remarks "no more memories" while Stephanie states "you see the coming together of a community" where everyone standing is a survivor.

Far Rockaway, once a popular resort, is a peninsula where an abundance of public housing now stands and where many residents are low income making them all the more vulnerable to the wrath of a storm that damaged or destoryed homes and left people without power, water and heat.

LANA

Director: Berman Fenelus

Cast: Shannon Lucio, Charlie Hofthiemer

Crew: ALex Bergman ( DP )

LANA is the story of one woman's struggle to find her true self and overcome her addiction.

Lana, a long-time heroin addict, begins her daily routine of self-destruction. Prostituting herself outside a seedy motel in Skid Row to afford her daily dose, she’s chasing a high that can only leave her further broken. Her co-dependent, aggressive boyfriend adds fuel to the fire. He needs her to prostitute herself so he can also get his fix, but he resents her for performing her illicit activities. Lana desires to be anywhere but her current state.

Beginning to withdraw and no longer able to quiet her true emotions, Lana realizes that her drug addiction has lead her towards this downward spiral of self-loathing and destruction. She looks to her past, desiring to heal the old wounds that got her here, and begins to envision her road to recovery. Her thirst for a sober life becomes clear in her eyes, with the hope that it may just happen.

A family intervention, although not the first attempt, guides her resurgence. Lana begins to see the brighter side of life for the first time. However, her drug life is never far behind her. Taunted by her dark lifestyle and cravings, she becomes unsure if she can ever overcome her addiction. Being pulled on both the positive and negative aspects of life, Lana is frozen in this moment, full of expectations for a new beginning and fearful that may never happen.

An ironic and sharp video animation dedicated to a poor and desolating human genre.
